The goal of Patient Blood Management (PBM) is to improve outcomes for each patient by avoiding unnecessary blood transfusions. A team of several healthcare professionals determines with the patient, the specific management plan, which makes every reasonable effort to increase and improve the patient’s own blood volume (especially red cell mass), reduce the patient’s blood loss, and increase or improve the patient’s capability to tolerate anaemia.
