About Creative Expression Centre for Arts Therapy (CECAT)
CECAT’s programs are aimed at promoting early intervention and recovery for people diagnosed with a mental illness, transitioning in or out of hospital to the community, or people at risk of relapse or post relapse.
We can help you express yourself creatively as part of your mental health recovery. Programs are free and most art materials provided, though some materials may incur a small fee. No art skills are necessary. CECAT has varied programs to meet your changing needs as your recovery progresses, including:
- individual and group art psychtherapy
- open art studios and art classes
- a TAFE certificate in art and design
To apply
You must be referred to CECAT by your mental health professional, so that your specific needs are considered.
Referrals are accepted from mental health professionals and GPs who case manage their client. If you would like to apply or find out more, speak to your mental health professional. You should also read our information sheet:
You will receive 3 monthly reviews from one of our art therapists while attending CECAT, to help review and plan your individual program as your recovery progresses.
Our staff
Staff at CECAT are trained Art Therapists or qualified Art Instructors, with experience in mental health. Our art therapists are registered with ANZATA (external site), the Australian and New Zealand Art Therapy Association.
