Art therapy

Creative Expression Centre for Arts Therapy (CECAT)

CECAT’s programs are aimed at promoting early intervention and recovery for people diagnosed with a mental illness, those transitioning between the hospital and the community, and clients at risk of relapse or those who have had a relapse.

We can help you express yourself creatively as part of your mental health recovery. Programs are free and most art materials provided – no art skills are necessary. We have varied programs for your changing needs as your recovery progresses including:

  • individual and group art therapy
  • open art studios and classes
  • a TAFE certificate in art and design

To apply

You must be referred to CECAT by your mental health professional, so that your specific needs are considered.

Referrals are accepted from mental health professionals and GPs who case manage their client. If you would like to apply or find out more, speak to your mental health professional. You should also read our information sheet:

You will receive 3 monthly reviews from one of our art therapists while attending CECAT, to help review and plan your individual program as your recovery progresses.
