Data Collections and Analysis - Statutory and Non-Admitted

Rehabilitation and Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) data collection

The data collection contains the assessment scores recorded on rehabilitation patients as they are admitted and discharged from hospital. The assessment is done using a standard instrument, the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) or the Modified Barthels Index (MBI) in use in WA hospitals.

It provides the basic data for a series of 14 performance indicators developed under the Australian Health Care Agreement, to be introduced incrementally over the years 2004/05 to 2007/08.

It will also be used to provide local reports on the performance of rehabilitation and GEM units to clinicians in WA.
