About Planning and Analysis Unit

The Planning Section contributes to the ongoing innovation strategy for Health and enables a vital link between service planning and infrastructure development.

The key role of the Planning and Analysis Unit includes:

  • Development of key strategic planning parameters based on service demand, demographic changes, changing models of care and changing resource availability;
  • Assists Area Health Services to refine planning parameters and align Statewide planning and Area level service planning;
  • Liaises with clinical networks and Area Health Services to define, model and forecast various clinical services;
  • Works collaboratively with Department of Health branches and units to ensure key planning functions such as workforce, resource allocation and recurrent funding, align with the strategic goals of the organisation and adequately support service planning and operational needs of Area Health Services.

About Infrastructure Policy and Coordination Unit

The Infrastructure Policy and Coordination Unit contributes to the ongoing infrastructure development and innovation strategy for Health.

The key role of the Infrastructure Policy and Coordination Unit includes:

  • Development of policies, standards and guidelines for infrastructure procurement for the State health system;
  • Provides specialist advice to Area Health Services and Department of Health branches and units on infrastructure procurement;
  • Coordinates the completion of business cases through Area Health Services for all appropriate infrastructure projects to meet the time and cost parameters agreed though Health’s infrastructure programs;
  • Coordinates the formal review and approval process of all business cases in conjunction with key stakeholders.
  • Provides advice on project implementation and risk issues.

About Infrastructure Program Development Unit

Program Development

The Infrastructure Program Development Unit contributes to the ongoing infrastructure development and innovation strategy for Health.

The key role of the Infrastructure Program Development Unit includes:

  • Development of policies, standards and guidelines for development and management of Health infrastructure programs for the State health system;
  • Provides specialist advice to Area Health Services and Department of Health branches about the maintenance of infrastructure programs for the State health system;
  • Development and maintenance a whole of Health infrastructure program reporting system and Health’s 10 year capital investment plan.

Land and Property

The Department of Health has a property portfolio valued at approximately $5.0 billion1 incorporating in the order of 1,300 properties2, including Hospitals, Health Centres & Clinics, Nursing Posts and staff accommodation.

The key role of the Land and Property Section of the Infrastructure Program Development Unit includes:

  • Development of policies, standards and guidelines for acquisition, leasing, management and disposal of land and property for the State health system;
  • Provision of specialist advice to Area Health Services and Department of Health branches and units on acquisition, leasing, management and disposal of land and property for the State health system, including heritage, native title, environmental zoning and conveyancing.
