Introduction to HACC – information for consumers and carers

Eligibility

To be eligible for HACC you must be:

  • living in the community and have an ongoing functional disability that impacts on your capacity to live independently or
  • be a carer of an eligible person

A service provider will assess you and identify your level of need. They will work with you in the short or long term to overcome, lessen or better manage the difficulties you are experiencing.

Cost

You will make a contribution towards the cost of the care you receive. The contribution is based on the level of support that you receive.

A person receiving an age pension contributes a maximum fee of $45 per week. This is called the HACC fee cap.

No person will be denied a service because they cannot afford to pay.

Finding services

You can contact a service provider directly. You do not need a referral.

For information on services in your area:

What if I need to cancel the support I receive from a HACC service for a few days?

You need to contact the agency that is providing you with support to let them know and discuss a change in arrangements. When your support plan is being developed, ask for a contact telephone number and make a note of it and the name of your service provider so you can contact them when the need arises.
