Disaster Flag Activation for Patient Administration Systems
The Western Australian (WA) Department of Health (DOH) is obligated under WESTPLAN – Health and WESTPLAN - Registration and Reunification to identify, track and record all patients admitted to hospitals in a disaster or major incident. The exchange of information by the DOH is as specified under Section 72 of the Emergency Management Act 2005 WA.
The aim of this Operational Directive is to detail the roles and responsibilities for the activation and deactivation of disaster flags and associated reporting extracts in patient administration applications.
The disaster flag and reporting extracts can be activated for the following applications:
ACTIVATION - ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The SHC is responsible for authorising the OCCO or OCDO to deactivate the disaster flag and reporting extracts. Annex F or the SHICC SOPs details the procedural steps required for deactivating the disaster flags and extracts for WebPAS, TOPAS and HCARe. The OCCO or OCDO is to notify all relevant hospitals, confirming the deactivation of the disaster flag.
MONITORING AND REVIEW
The Senior Policy Officer, Disaster Preparedness and Management Unit is responsible for the monitoring and review of this document on an annual basis.
