A Family Work Room has been established at EPGO and is now available for bookings.The Family Work Room has been established to assist employees in caring for their immediate family or dependents in an emergency, when normal care arrangements have broken down or when, due to non-infectious illness, normal care arrangements cannot be used. It also provides facilities for the expressing of breast milk.

In 1998, a report by the Office of the Auditor General was extremely critical of the manner in which VMPs were paid by Government Hospitals. The Health Department then undertook a series of actions to address the OAG criticism, including review of all fees and operational instructions, and subcontracting the Health Insurance Commission to operate a VMP Account Assessment & Information System (AA&IS) on it’s behalf.

It is strongly recommended that all hospitals/health services undertaking sterilisation procedures with a filshie clip applicator, irrespective of the number of procedures done per year, purchase an applicator closure checking gauge. According to the manufacturer’s information the applicator closure checking gauge will provide identification of applicators that may need readjustment. In accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions the applicator closure checking gauge should be used immediately prior to each filshie clip sterilisation procedure.

Following a previous advice on the above topic on 23 November 1998 attention is drawn to the necessity for regular maintenance and adjustment to applicators for Filshie Clips. All Filshie Clip applicators must be adjusted and recalibrated after 100 uses or every 12 months, which ever is the earliest. Records on the status of each applicator must be kept in operating room records.

Premier’s Circular No 2005/02 (issued on 31 March 2005) has as its Policy Objectives:
  • Ensure that agencies have considered the risk of corruption and misconduct as a component of their organisational risk; and
  • Ensure that agencies have a plan in place to reduce the risk of corruption and misconduct.
Accordingly, a Fraud and Corruption Control Plan has been prepared to establish an appropriate strategic framework that defines management and staff responsibilities and assists in ensuring the implementation of robust practices for the effective detection, investigation and prevention of fraud and corruption of any description within WA Health.This Fraud and Corruption Control Plan was endorsed by SHEF on 3 April 2007.

From 1 April 1999, the Department, Hospitals and Health Services are required to include the ‘grossed up’ value of any private use of their motor vehicles on employees group certificates in accordance with the ‘A New Tax System (Fringe Benefits Reporting) Act, 1999’.
